The art of hatching an audiophile

Back in middle school I received education in music, so I had to choose an instrument.

-If all you wanted was to become either an acoustic engineer or if math was not your major a sound technician.

It's important that the treble is crisp and crystal clear, that's where it gets angelic.

It's also very important not to stress the middle tone range with bass, so 2-ways speakers are banned.

Remember to install a 3rd party equalizer and boost the treble with +30% for old recordings and +40% for modern recordings. Preferably also +4% reverb (studio not stadium).

Downmixing the entire frequency spectrum makes the mid-range muddy.

Don't mind the distortion, mind your choice of preference with ambience.

To avoid distortion, lower the midrange instead.

Going beyond +50% increases any attenuator to dampen the spikes in the rest of the frequency spectrum.

Mind that +3dB is a double increase in the amount of acoustic energy measured Joules.

Evolution

Long Play records (LP) introduced prolonged playtime on the individual tracks to #reflect on classic music often being sonatas, master pieces of classic composers like Beethoven, Mozart, etc. Enumerating a total of 8 tracks of average 8 minutes long.

​

Compact Discs introduced a prolonged total play time of 74 min. Enumerating shorter tracks but increasing the total number of tracks.

From 8 to 18 tracks total, and typically no less than 10 tracks and the promotion of additional two bonus tracks (12 tracks).

If you create a playlist on YouTube, you will notice, that only 10 tracks are visible in the right-side window.

​

With the possibility to be more productive with AI, the total number of tracks will continue to increase.

​

The evolution enforced a hard copy disc-less future. I had 300 Compact Discs, now I have zero left.

A predecessor had 3,000 Long Play records (LP) and has now passed on to the other side. R.I.P.

Iron Maiden is a perfect example why you wouldn't want to record your album in Great Britain,

it's great music, but downmixing multiple tracks is a challenge.

Downmixing multiple tracks into one​ continues to quest for remastering them.

So, now 35 years later, I can clearly define what {field} of expertise I want.
