The art of hatching an audiophile

Back in middle school I received education in music, so I had to choose an instrument.

-If all you wanted was to become either an acoustic engineer or if math was not your major a sound technician.

It's important that the treble is crisp and crystal clear, that's where it gets angelic.

It's also very important not to stress the middle tone range with bass, so 2-ways speakers are banned.

​

Remember to install a 3rd party equalizer and boost the treble with +30% for old recordings and +40% for modern recordings. Preferably also +4% reverb (studio not stadium).

Downmixing the entire frequency spectrum makes the mid-range muddy.

Don't mind the distortion, mind your choice of preference with ambience.

To avoid distortion, lower the midrange instead.

Going beyond +50% increases any attenuator to dampen the spikes in the rest of the frequency spectrum.

Mind that +3dB is a double increase in the amount of acoustic energy measured Joules.

Evolution

​

Long Play records (LP) introduced prolonged playtime on the individual tracks to #reflect on classic music often being sonatas, master pieces of classic composers like Beethoven, Mozart, etc. Enumerating a total of 8 tracks of average 8 minutes long.

​

Compact Discs introduced a prolonged total play time of 74 min. Enumerating shorter tracks but increasing the total number of tracks.

From 8 to 18 tracks total, and typically no less than 10 tracks and the promotion of additional two bonus tracks (12 tracks).

​

If you create a playlist on YouTube, you will notice, that only 10 tracks are visible in the right-side window.

​

With the possibility to be more productive with AI, the total number of tracks will continue to increase.

​

The evolution enforced a hard copy disc-less future. I had 300 Compact Discs, now I have zero left.

A predecessor had 3,000 Long Play records (LP) and has now passed on to the other side. R.I.P.

Iron Maiden is a perfect example why you wouldn't want to record your album in Great Britain,

it's great music, but downmixing multiple tracks is a challenge.

Downmixing multiple tracks into one​ continues to quest for remastering them.

So, now 35 years later, I can clearly define what {field} of expertise I want.

A favorite guitar, if blue is a favorite color, and a maple fretboard has a bright sound over a mellow sound, but more durable rosewood fretboard.

The S-S-H pickup configuration from neck to bridge is also a favorite choice of preference.

The guitar sound effects applied are just tear-jerking pitch perfect.

Guitar Tuning

​

Mensur (string length measure) / Tensur (string tension)

{Formula}: Mensur + Tensur = Intonation 

​

The length and tension of the guitar strings needs to be aligned with the twelve band guitar flageolets, or it will become bad intonation.

(Called båndfalsk in Danish)

This is adjusted with a hex wrench key (Umbraco key, Unbrakonøgle in Danish) at the bridge.​

Making the guitar tuning worse faster!

Fixed bridge (stable) vs 1-way or 2-way floating point tremolo bridges.

On the backside of the guitar body there is a plate that can be unscrewed revealing coil springs that can also alter the intonation between the wounded bass strings and the unwounded treble strings.

​

The choice between a guitar with 21-24 frets also introdues jumbo frets as with Ibanez guitars.

​

Tone and Pickup Placement

• 21-Fret Guitars: Feature neck pickups positioned further down for a warmer, rounder, and more vintage sound.

• 24-Fret Guitars: Require moving the neck pickup closer to the bridge, creating a tighter, brighter, and more articulate tone suited for high-gain styles.

 

Fret Sizes (Jumbo vs Vintage)

• Jumbo Frets: Offer a height of around .055" and width of .110". They require less finger pressure, make string bending easier, and improve legato playing.

• Standard/Vintage Frets: Are smaller and lower, offering a traditional feel where your fingers touch the wood more directly.

Should I choose a 00.9 or 0.10 guitar string set?

Choose a 0.09 string set if you want easy string bending and fast solos, or a 0.10 set if you want a fuller tone, more sustain, and extra string tension to fight over-bending.​

​

Advantages of 0.09 String Gauge (Light)

• Easier to press down: Requires less finger power, which is nice for beginners or for long sessions.

• Easier bends: Inflection (pulling the string to change pitch) feels very effortless.

• Good for lead play: Perfect for fast-paced solos and rock/metal genres.

 

Advantages of 0.10 String Dimensions (Standard/Medium)

• Richer sound: Provides a deeper, more powerful tone with more sustain (making the tone fade farther out).

• Better control during hard play: If you play with a hard pick, the strings will be shaken less by intonation.

• More resistance: Provides more resistance to the fingers, which can stabilize chords so that they don't tune out falsely if you press too hard.

Cryogenic guitar strings

Cryogenic guitar strings are strings that have been frozen to approximately -195°C (-320°F) using liquid nitrogen before packaging.

This process alters the molecular structure of the metal, closing microscopic fissures and relieving internal stress within the material.

The result is a guitar string with a longer lifespan, improved tuning stability, and a more distinct tone.

Benefits of cryogenic strings

Extended durability: Because the surface becomes more uniform and smooth, the strings accumulate less dirt, sweat, and skin oils. They remain fresh significantly longer than traditional, untreated strings.

Clearer, crisper tone: Many guitarists experience a more resonant and balanced bass response, as well as clean highs free from muddy frequencies.

Better intonation: Molecular uniformity allows the string to vibrate more evenly, helping the guitar stay in tune for longer periods.

Guitar pedals must be ordered specifically

• The first jack plug goes into the guitar

• The second jack plug goes into a chromatic tuner

• The third jack plug goes into an equalizer (mellow sound rosewood or bright maple fretboard, neck or bridge pick-up)

• The fourth jack plug goes into a noise suppressor (pick-up style, single bucker or humbucker)

• The fifth jack plug goes into a compression/sustainer (picking style, passive or active compressor)

• The sixth jack plug goes into distortion pedals

• The seventh jack plug goes into chorus/reverb

• The eighth jack plug goes into phase shifter/flanger
